There is no doubt that I struggled with making this my final decision tonight. But I'm officially a UC Berkeley #GoldenBear! I made a promise to my best friend before he died in these cold streets of Richmond, that we would one day go to Berkeley. Never did I think it would become a reality, especially for PhD studies in the #1 ranked program in the world. This is for all the folks from the struggles who dream big. We did it! Richmond and San Pablo made me. My family never gave up on me and my wild dreams. My mentors invested in me. And having purpose saved me. Thank you everyone. Soon, it'll be Dr. ThugLyfe. In the ranks of other and very few Gangsta Nerds. Oh yeah, and they offered me the Chancellor's Fellowship on top of my NSF funding! Blessed, privileged, thankful. Unapologetic. And to think I almost listened to that teacher in high school at DA who suggested it was best I drop out. Good thing I was never good with obeying or believing in authority.
